• A Real Monkey, Jose-Luis's House

We were pleased to spot our first howler monkey yesterday.     "Howler Monkey - These are the ones we can hear from the house"   We went up to the gardeners house to take some photo's for him, when we spotted this handsome fellow.  He was with several others, who weren't quite so brave.  Interesting creatures with very black faces & very white testicles.  We also saw a nice looking squirrel, but he was way to quick for us.   "This is the first wild monkey we have seen at Hacienda Iguana"    The reason we were taking photos ...

  • My Last Construction Related Post

The internet connection is now up and running, although not very fast.  It is currently 128kbs, rather than the 768kbs I was promised.  The guy who set the system up has promised me he'll be able to achieve the 768kbs by changing some settings on his server in Managua - the proof will be in the pudding, as they say.  We still have no satellite TV as (apparently) the decoders were stolen in transit from the US.   "On our way toward another $432 water bill!" The landscaping work is now finished, Ernesto and his crew have done a great ...

  • Mystery Of The $432 Hacienda Iguana Water Bill

Apart from receiving a pretty hefty water bill after filling the swimming pool, all looking good.     The Mystery Of The $432 Water Bill - Filling your pool's going to hurt!    Still, at least the pool is no longer green, as it was last week.     I am also very pleased with how the safety fence around the pool is turning out.  The only bits missing now are the two sets of gates, which I hope will be finished by the weekend.     The garden work is progressing well.  Most of the site is now level ...

  • Tons of new photos!

Check out these photos from our last trip down to the house! The whole place will be absolutely amazing once the grass is down and the pool is usable!

  • Zoysia or Paspalum?

Quick progress is being made with the garden and earth work.  I have been making up my mind about which grass to use for the lawn.   I had planned on using Paspalum, the same as on the golf course, but the groundsman advised me against it.  His reasoning being that is won't grow in the shade.  We did a quick tour of the resort and he showed me the various grass types in use around the golf course.  In particular we were looking at the grass used on the shady tee-boxes, which is Zoysia.     Zoysia is exactly the grass I had not wanted to ...

  • Almost Finished!

Curtains are going up today, and hopefully we'll be spending our first night in the new house this weekend!
